Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William of Wales & Catherine Middleton
Buckingham Palace, London.
Image shows the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight passing overhead the Mall and the Royal Couple on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
More than 1, 300 personnel from across the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force played a key role in the ceremonial elements of the Royal Wedding today. Their roles included Guard duties, lining the ceremonial route, musical support through ceremonial bands, and a spectacular seven-aircraft flypast from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and two Tornado and two Typhoon fast jets.
Representing all of the Armed Forces inside the Abbey for the service was Chief of the Defence Staff General Sir David Richards, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, Chief of the General Staff General Sir Peter Wall, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton.
Further afield, troops in Afghanistan watched the service and held their own celebrations to wish the couple well. Alongside his current Royal Air Force Search and Rescue role, HRH Prince William is also Commodore-in-Chief of Submarines, Colonel of the Irish Guards, Royal Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Coningsby and Patron of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the historic Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton at Buckingham Palace in London. The image showcases a breathtaking moment as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight soars overhead, creating a stunning backdrop for the newlywed royal couple standing on the iconic balcony. The ceremonial elements of this grand occasion involved over 1,300 personnel from across the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force. These dedicated individuals played vital roles such as guarding duties, lining the ceremonial route, providing musical support through their bands, and orchestrating an awe-inspiring seven-aircraft flypast featuring RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight planes alongside Tornado and Typhoon fast jets. Inside Westminster Abbey for the service were esteemed figures representing all branches of the Armed Forces: Chief of Defence Staff General Sir David Richards, Chief Naval Staff Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, Chief General Staff General Sir Peter Wall, and Chief Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton. Even troops stationed in Afghanistan took part in celebrating this joyous event by watching the service and hosting their own festivities to extend well wishes to the happy couple. It is worth noting that aside from his role in Search and Rescue with the Royal Air Force, HRH Prince William also holds significant positions such as Commodore-in-Chief of Submarines, Colonel of Irish Guards, Royal Honorary Air Commandant at RAF Coningsby, and Patron of RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. This remarkable photograph was expertly captured by Sgt Andy Malthouse ABIPP from Armed Forces (not affiliated with any company) solely for non-commercial use.
