EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Liverpool Arms pub in Canning Town, London, as it stood proudly before its eventual demolition in 2018. The pub, located at E16 1ED, was a longstanding establishment with a rich history, having been in operation since at least 1929, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the reverse of this print. The Liverpool Arms, a public house, bar, or simply "boozer" to some, was a beloved local watering hole in the heart of Canning Town, New London. Its history is intertwined with that of the Charrington and Company Limited, a significant player in the British brewing industry. The red brick facade, adorned with ornate detailing and the distinctive Liverpool Arms sign, exudes a sense of history and community. The pub's windows, now darkened with age, once welcomed patrons seeking refuge from the bustling streets of Canning Town. Despite its charm, the Liverpool Arms, like so many pubs before it, succumbed to the relentless march of progress and was demolished in 2018. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of a bygone era, a time when the Liverpool Arms was a beloved gathering place for the community of Canning Town. The reverse of this print includes a detailed trading record, which documents the pub's history from 1929 to 1961. This information adds depth to the photograph, providing a glimpse into the pub's past and the lives of those who frequented it.
